LRES PTA SLACC
About Us
The Laurel Ridge Elementary School PTA Spanish Language and Culture Committee (LRES PTA SLACC) supports the advancement of Spanish language learning for all students at Laurel Ridge, as well as exposure to cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries.
The LRES PTA SLACC partners with the PTA for:
- family events, like the annual Spanish movie and culture night,
- after-school enrichment programs, such as Amigos Spanish Club, and
- staff appreciation and recognition.
Additionally, SLACC coordinates:
- a private Facebook group for LRES Spanish Immersion parents and families to connect
- a parent resource board with opportunities to explore Spanish language and culture with your family
Virtual Meetings
LRES PTA SLACC meetings are held virtually approximately twice a semester. All LRES family members are welcome and encouraged to participate.

¡Felicidades Amigos! We are the proud winners of the 2024 Elementary Volunteer of the Year Award by Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA)!
Amigos is an afterschool Spanish Club at Laurel Ridge Elementary School! Amigos was created to give LRES students opportunities to speak, play, and learn in Spanish while having lots of fun.
Amigos is part of Laurel Ridge's PTA and open to all students in 1st through 5th grade, regardless of Spanish language experience or ability.
What We Do
Amigos sessions will give students many opportunities to practice Spanish. This year we are partnering with Sarah's Spanish School for the content of our sessions. As in the past, LRES parent and Robinson high school volunteers will run each session.
Our goal is to provide students with a place to explore Spanish language and culture. We will not be providing explicit Spanish literacy instruction, but will instead introduce vocabulary and topics through fun, interactive activities. We hope they will continue to practice what they learn after the Amigos meetings and share their experience with their family and friends.

This could mean picking up/dropping off students from SACC, checking attendance, helping groups rotate from station to station, distributing snack, and helping with general behavior. Amigos sessions run from 4:00-5:00 pm and are held in the cafeteria. Volunteers need to arrive no later than 3:45 pm. Session activities are being planned by Sarah's Spanish School. ¡Felicidades Amigos! ¡Somos los orgullosos ganadores del premio "2024 Elementary Volunteer of the Year Award", otorgado por Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA)!

Tutor.com - Free help through FCPS:
Access tutor.com through your child's Schoology account.
You can access Spanish tutors, or any world language tutoring in general, but ONLY to help with a specific homework assignment and only through chat/voice, not video.
You will see a screen that asks you to pick a topic, subject and grade. Select as Topic “World Languages.” Then subject “Spanish. And finally, select Grade 6. From there, your child can immediately be taken to a Spanish language tutor. Select “Voice” if you want to speak with them, rather than type messages to them.
