ππ»β¨ Stories & Stuffies Family Night – Volunteers Needed! β¨π»π
On Wednesday, December 4th, our school will host a brand new PTA family event: Stories & Stuffies—a cozy night filled with read-alouds, bookmark making, and even a Stuffie Sleepover π€ where kids’ stuffed animals get to have their own overnight adventure! Parents will also have the chance to explore helpful resources on how to support their young readers.
We already have a fantastic committee lead guiding the way, but she can’t do it alone—she needs a few enthusiastic teammates to help plan and bring the magic to life. No special skills required, just a love of learning and the desire to make reading fun for kids.
Please e-mail Brenda to let her know you want to help her!
Friday, April 24th, 6:00-8:00pm

It’s a fun and inspiring evening where learning comes to life.
Let’s build, explore, and discover—together! π‘π§π¨π
Hosted by the LRES PTA
Every Lion, One Book (ELOB) is a school-wide reading event where students, their families, and staff at Laurel Ridge read the same book together at the same time. This program takes place in March and brings LRES families together to build a community of readers and foster a sense of belonging within our school. The reading program concludes with Family Trivia Night at the end of the month.
Committee members help shape the program by reading book options over the summer, attending monthly virtual meetings in the fall and spring (typically Monday evenings), and assisting with planning activities and events related to the chosen book. Please note: January and February are busier months as we prepare to launch the program for students in March!
Please click here to visit the ELOB website for more information.

π Passport to the World βοΈ
Pack your (pretend) bags and get ready for an evening of global adventure at Passport to the World! Students will "travel" from country to country—exploring cultures, tasting traditional foods, and collecting stamps in their very own passport.
Visit tables representing countries from around the globe, each with displays of art, music, photos, and fun facts. Sample delicious dishes, enjoy performances, and end the night with an international dance party!
Want to get involved? Families are invited to host a table—no need to be from a country to represent it; just your willingness to learn about it! Whether you're bringing food, sharing music, or just showing your love for a place, we'd love to have you join in.
This is a free event and a great way to celebrate the diversity of our school community.
See the world—no plane ticket required!

ππ²π΄π¦½ National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day is celebrated twice a year across the country as a way to get kids moving and reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions around schools. Join the fun by biking, rolling, or walking to school on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025. Festivities start no earlier than 8:30am. Be sure to visit the PTA's event table and grab bike stickers and/or keychains while supplies last!
If you normally drive and drop off in Kiss and Ride, consider parking 1/4 mile away from the school and walking up with your child.
π If you do park in the neighborhood, please remember these safety rules and parking laws:
- Please park 10 feet away from all driveway entrances. When we park closer than that, residents cannot safely see oncoming traffic when trying to get out of their driveway.
- Please do not park on the corner of two streets.
- Please only cross the street at designated crosswalks. We cannot have a crosswalk at Commonwealth Blvd and Pumphrey Dr, because it is at the top of a hill and very dangerous to cross on foot.
- Please do not stop in the middle of the street to let your child out.
Why Walk, Bike or Roll?
It’s fun! Remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time or walking or rolling to school on the first day? There’s a feeling of joy and independence—a sense of adventure—that doesn’t fade. Of course, there are many other benefits to walking, biking or rolling to school, too.
Healthier Habits
Active trips to school enable children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Regular physical activity helps children build strong bones, muscles and joints, and it decreases the risk of obesity.
And more! Read about all the benefits by visiting the Walk, Bike, & Roll to School website.
