WINTER/SPRING 2025 AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES
The LRES PTA is excited to support two kinds of enrichment opportunities:

Registration opens Friday, 1/10 at 8am* for Winter/Spring Enrichment Classes (fee-based)
*Registration for most classes will open at 8:00 a.m. However, Kids in Motion classes will open at 9:00 a.m., and Chess will open at 12:00 noon. Please see each class description below. Registration will close on January 22nd at 11:59 p.m., or when a class is full, whichever comes first.
**RunFitKidz (for Grades 1-6) will hold a session this spring on Wednesdays, but its dates run from March 19th through May 14th with the Celebration 5k on Sunday, May 18th at Fairfax Corner. Registration for RunFitKidz will take place on Monday, February 17 at 8:00 a.m. at https://www.prtrainingprograms.com/runfit-
kidz/. Please see attachment at the bottom of this page for more information.

Ultimate Dance Fitness with Kids in Motion
K-5th, $161/child

Kids in Motion K-5 students will follow along with the teacher to songs and choreography. They will also play dance games, such as freeze dance, dancing 4 corners, center star, follow the leader, dancing red light/green light, and many more! This is a dance fitness class that uses kid friendly songs, choreography, and dance games. This class helps children make friends, get active after school, and love dance fitness!
Introduction to Yoga and Mindfulness with Warrior Kids Yoga
K-6th, $170/child

Join us in our indoor/outdoor studio (at LRES) as we connect, breathe, move, and focus. Warrior Kids Yoga helps little yogis stay healthy, cope with stress, and cultivate their inner strength both on and off the mat. Through our playful programs, children experience the benefits of the union of breath, mind, and body. This class is good for the new and returning yogi.
Performing Antics with Educate Theater
1st-6th, $180/child

Squishy Squishmallow with Kidcreate Studio - FULL

Bunnycorn, Prince the Pug, Mauve the Alpaca and more – the hardest thing about those squishy Squishmallows is deciding which one you love the most! In this workshop, artists will create a clay version of their favorite Squishmallow using air-dry clay, paint, and so much more. What could be more fun? Bring your Squishmallow to class so they can join in the fun!
Basketball with Kids in Motion
K-3, $161/child

Kids in Motion Basketball class is for K-3 students. During class, athletes start with warm ups,
move on to learn the basics of dribbling, shooting, passing, and they work up to being able to form teams to
scrimmage (based on the groups ability.) Coaches engage the kids in super fun warm ups, such as sharks and
minnows, tag games, and team racing competitions at the start of class. This class teaches kids the
fundamentals and they learn basic skills in basketball. It's a great way to get active after the school day!
Chess with Magnus Chess Academy
K-6th, $210/child

Fun is the name of the game...but Magnus Chess Academy also sneaks in a bit of critical thinking, sportsmanship, and patience into chess club! Each week students of all levels do a fun but challenging lesson with one of our great coaches from our world class curriculum followed by practice games against other students in the class. Join the 100,000 (and counting!) kids who've learned chess with the official academy of 5x world champion Magnus Carlsen. This in-person club includes online extras like practice tournaments, Chesskid Gold membership ($49 value) and a bonus lesson with Magnus or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player ever!

Jump Club 2025 Winter Enrichment Program
The Laurel Ridge PTA is excited to offer a unique, fun, and heart-pounding program this winter - Jump Club! In Jump Club you will learn to jump rope, improve skills, and get an excellent workout. Jump Club is open to LRES students in grades 4-6 and will meet for 8 consecutive Wednesday mornings before school (2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26) from 8-8:50 a.m.
Experienced parent volunteers facilitate the practices and current Lightning Lions team members assist with teaching tips and advanced tricks.
The cost is $25 for a new jump rope and program supplies; there is an addition fee for student-athlete insurance of approximately $20. Registration starts on Friday, January 10, at 8:00 a.m. and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Jump club will be limited to 30 jumpers.

Amigos
The PTA's Spanish Language & Culture Committee organizes and runs Amigos, a parent-led after school club for Grades 1-5 where kids can be kids in Spanish, through crafting, chatting, and playing. The dates for the second semester session are being finalized and will be shared soon! Students who participated in the Fall may sign up again.
Registration will open soon and the link to register will be sent out in an email and be posted on the Amigos website: https://bit.ly/LRESamigos. A small materials fee will be charged per student.
Volunteers are needed to lead activities and support students during the sessions! Please see the website or email amigos@laurelridgepta.org with any questions.

THIS ROLE HAS BEEN FILLED AS OF 9/5! We are in need of an on site parent for Thursday afternoons. The on-site parent will receive their child's class (just one student) free of charge. Responsibilities include assisting with attendance and dealing with attendance abnormalities, helping as needed during class time, and assisting as needed during dismissal. The parent needs to arrive at school by 3:45, and stay until all students have been picked up at 5:15. This role will be first-come, first-served for the first parent who is able to commit to it. Creating with clay and painting on canvas- it just doesn’t get any better than that! In this camp, your
child will get to experiment with many different types of art while learning simple step-by-step
painting and clay techniques. They will make 3D bears, owls that glow-in-the-dark, a scratch board
painting of a cat and so much more! What a great way for your child to explore the incredible world
of art!

RunFit Kidz is unlike any other running program as our certified professional coaches understand the unique needs of young runners. We believe an early foundation of fitness will lead to a lifetime of healthy habits. Our non-competitive program is a wonderful place where kids are encouraged to strive for their own personal goals, be active with friends, and build confidence.
Class Details:
Boys and girls in 1st - 6th grade. Certified Professional Coaching provided. Instruction on running mechanics, strength training, nutrition, pacing, and goal setting. Games, activities, and drills to bring running concepts alive. Participants build self-esteem, confidence, and determination. Celebration 5k: Sunday, November 17th at Fairfax Corner

Sports Mix with Kids in Motion

Kids in Motion Sports Mix includes Run Club, Flag Football, Basketball and Soccer for K-3
students. During basketball, flag football, and soccer, athletes start with warm ups, move on to learn the
basics of dribbling, shooting, passing, and catching, and then form teams to scrimmage if the kids are able (based on the group’s ability.) Coaches engage the kids in super fun running warm ups, such as sharks and minnows, tag games, and team racing competitions at the start of class. During run club kids alternate during the hour between running laps and participating in fun running games, races, and activities. Sports Mix is all about fun fitness and learning new skills. It's a great way to be active and make friends after school!

Amigos Spanish Club - 9/30, 10/21, 11/18, and 12/9

¡Viajamos por el mundo hispanohablante!
The PTA's Spanish Language & Culture Committee organizes and runs Amigos, a parent-led after school club for Grades 1-5 where kids can be kids in Spanish, through crafting, chatting, and playing.
This fall we will begin a journey through the Spanish-speaking world! Each session will focus on one country and students will explore geography, culture, sports, art, music and/or food. Students will visit various stations throughout each session and participate in a craft or activity specific to the country. The club will meet on the following Mondays from 4:00-5:15pm in the LRES cafeteria: 9/30, 10/21, 11/18, and 12/9.

If you have more than one student, please complete one form for each student. There is a $25 materials fee per participant. Financial aid is available if needed.

Lightning Lions Jump Rope Club
THREE MORNINGS PER WEEK from 7:50 to 8:45 a.m.
OCTOBER THROUGH MAY
GRADES 4-6
The Lightning Lions is a performance jump rope team offering a safe, fun, and positive team opportunity for students interested in the sport of jump rope. The team is open to LRES students in grades 6, 5, and 4 and meets regularly before school to exercise, practice jump rope skills, and prepare for performances. Throughout the school year, Lightning Lions perform in front of local audiences to demonstrate their jump rope competency and delight friends, families and the community.

Technology Youth Empowerment
Thursdays from 4:00-5:00pm starting September 26th and ending November 21st
LRES PTA and Technology Youth Empowerment (TYE) are excited to bring this free opportunity to 4th-6th grade LRES students. TYE is a STEM program run by experienced high school students who help expose elementary school students to STEM related content through mini lessons and hands on projects.
Space is limited to 25 students. Sign ups are first come, first served and there will be a waitlist.

September PTA meeting and Activities FairLaurel Ridge PTA is hosting its first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday, 9/4, at 7:00 p.m. in the LRES library. Topics this month will include financial reports, the proposed budget for this school year, fundraisers, and the Science Olympiad pilot program. Any children attending should be prepared to quietly sit in a designated area of the library and independently read as there are no babysitters available during the meeting. You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings. Documents for this meeting will be available at least 24 hours before the meeting on our website.
